BHS Alumni Scholarships

Each year the Association provides two $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors. These awards are funded through membership fees and contributions.

GUIDELINES:

Each year the Alumni Association offers $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors who have in place plans to attend college or a non-college pre-career training program. A copy of the application form is attached.

Graduating seniors will be notified each spring by the high school guidance staff of these offers at the same time other scholarship opportunities are announced. Applicants will be asked to complete a form and submit it through the scholarship committee to the administration and thence to the Association Board of Directors. Each applicant will be required to obtain an endorsement from at least one member of the high school professional staff.

The Board of Directors, after consultation with the school administrators, will select up to two applicants to each receive the one time $1000 scholarships. A member of the Board or an administrator will present the awards at the annual awards ceremony.

In making the selection the Board will apply the following criteria:

  • evidence of good character

  • an acceptable level of achievement

  • demonstrated effort and perseverance

  • participation in a range of school and community activities

  • a reasonable degree of clarity in selecting a realistic career path

The Board will give preference to those applicants who:

  • have already applied to or have been accepted at a college or other training program

  • have chosen a program leading toward a specific career path, as opposed to a general academic program

  • will participate in a training or college program that will cost at least $1000

  • have already saved some money to defray school or program costs

  • have another family member who is an alumnus of Bethel High School

  • have a parent, grandparent or sibling who is a member of the Alumni Association

  • based on confidential communication with the school staff, demonstrates some degree of financial need.
