BETHEL HIGH SCHOOL CAPSTONE EXPERIENCE
Mission Statement:
The Capstone Experience engages students in a project that focuses on an interest, career path or academic pursuit that synthesizes classroom study and real world perspective, and demonstrates personalized learning. The goal of the Bethel High School Capstone Experience is to allow a senior to create and pursue an educational objective or opportunity that cannot be pursued during the normal school day and is above and beyond the normal academic curriculum.
Brief Overview:
The Capstone Experience spans all four years; it is a graduation requirement worth 1.0 credit. During grades 9, 10 and 11, students will be asked to complete tasks and assignments that explore their personal interests, career desires and their student success plans. During grade 12, students will apply a number of academic, technical, and personal skills to plan, design, and present a final project. Ideally, a senior’s capstone project is a culmination of a student's academic career, which allows that student to synthesize important lessons learned or to further develop a special talent or interest they have been pursuing throughout high school. Through the Capstone Experience, students develop a project that allows them to learn about themselves by either developing a product, delivering a service or exploring a field of interest. This is something that the student plans, develops, and executes based on what they have learned through their own independent research, as well as their high school and life experiences.
