AP Statistics

Prerequisite: Precalculus 31 or Precalculus 42 (A average) with signature of AP teacher and signature of department chairperson
Course Description:This is a college level statistics course for highly motivated mathematically able students. The current College Board’s Advanced Placement Course Description prescribes the course content for Statistics. Students study the analysis and interpretation of data, methods of planning and conducting a study, the production of models using probability theory and simulations, and the use of statistical inference to guide the selection of appropriate models. Students will not be allowed to contract up to the advanced placement level within the Statistics 42 class. The College Board Advanced Placement test given in May is required.

Course Description: The practice of statistics has been enhanced by the use of the TI- 83 graphing calculator and computer programs. This course is designed for motivated high school students at an advanced reading level. Students explore data, work with the normal distribution, examine relationships, and simulate experiments. Probability models, random variables, and distributions are studied, along with tests of significance.
