Bethel High School Math Department

The Mathematics Mission of Bethel High School, in partnership with our colleagues, families and the community is to develop mathematically literate members of society who are college and career ready by engaging in challenging learning experiences requiring communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creative problem solving. Students persevere as they apply what they learn in mathematics in a variety of meaningful ways.

The Math department offers many options for coursework that fits the needs of all students and accommodates all levels of learners. These various programs of study prepare students not only for college math, but also for the workplace and many of life's challenges.

In all classes emphasis is placed on developing the following Mathematical Practices:

1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.

3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.

4. Model with mathematics.

5. Use appropriate tools strategically.

6. Attend to precision.

7. Look for and make use of structure.

8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
